CF Martin CS-00S-14

WebGuy General News

Every once in a while, you play a guitar that makes you realise everything you own just isn’t enough!  The new Martin CS-00S-14 does exactly that.  It may not be that what you own isn’t good enough, or simply up to the job, it’s just this guitar is simply so amazing, it could convince you to change everything!

The CS-00S-14 is one of the latest additions to the Martin Custom Shop range.  The guitar is 00 size, 12 fret neck join, with a traditional slotted headstock.  Not that unusual I hear you cry!  Well, you would be right, except this model has the added appointment of Style 42 inlay work, an amazing, rare, Honduras Rosewood back and sides, and torrefied Swiss Spruce top, which altogether adds up to a guitar, which not only looks outstanding, but sounds superb.

12 fret, 00 sized guitars are traditionally the choice of fingersyle players, and this piece isn’t any different in that respect, except I couldn’t help but try it with a pick as well, and it didn’t disappoint, giving rich and full tones on chords, along with great dynamics fingerstyle players have come to expect from smaller body Martin guitars. Other features included on the CS-00S-14 are the ultra lightweight non-adjustable carbon fiber neck reinforcement.  Meaning there isn’t a traditional adjustable truss rod in the neck, but it still has the stability of having a rod, helping the neck remain in the correct position.  And for those wishing to take the guitar onstage, don’t worry; it has a Fishman Aura VT pickup system fitted, with simple Volume and Tone controls discreetly mounted in the soundhole.

So, although Martin are not short on 12 fret guitars through the range, including the also amazing 0042SC and  0028VS, it has to be said, the CS-00S-14 is a welcome addition to the family, and with only 114 made WORLDWIDE, it’s a guitar not to be missed, because, it will not be hanging around for long.
